A fabric buyer's first decision is which sub-branch meets the need. This sector lists companies that make fabric in rolls and sell it wholesale. If you are looking for the yarn behind the fabric, see yarn suppliers; if you want fabric dyed or finished, see dyeing and finishing companies. This page is a directory; for the step-by-step process of finding, comparing and ordering from a mill, read our guide on how to source fabric from Turkey.
Sub-branches of the fabric sector
- Knitted fabrics: flexible surfaces formed by knitting yarn into loops, the material of knitted garments from T-shirts to sweatshirts. Knit constructions from single jersey to polar fleece are listed on separate sub-pages.
- Woven fabrics: more stable surfaces formed by interlacing warp and weft yarns, for shirts, pants, dresses and jackets. They divide into poplin and shirting fabrics, gabardine, denim, linen, satin, chiffon and velvet.
- Nonwovens: surfaces in which fibers or filaments are bonded without weaving or knitting. Hygiene, filtration and medical applications are the main fields.
- Upholstery fabrics: fabrics for furniture and decoration, where abrasion resistance and color fastness stand out. For curtain fabric and ready-made curtains, see curtains.
- Technical fabrics: fabrics designed for a specific function. Ask for the performance value with a test report.
- Lining fabrics: fabrics used on the inside of garments. They must withstand the same care conditions as the main fabric.
- Deadstock and surplus fabrics: fabrics available ready. They give quick supply, but quantity and color are limited.
What to pin down before comparing fabric quotes
Two fabric quotes with the same name can be different products. Get these five points in writing before you compare:
- Construction, fiber, yarn and finishing: A fabric name describes only one of these. Ask for all four in writing; the distinction is explained in the fabric types guide.
- Stock or made to order: Which one it is determines the minimum order, lead time and color options.
- Unit of sale: Ask whether the price is per kilogram or per meter, and whether the width is measured open or tubular.
- Test report: Ask which standard the report follows, which laboratory made it and from which lot the sample was taken. For independent measurement, see textile testing laboratories.
- Certificates: For certificates such as OEKO-TEX, GOTS and GRS, check the scope and validity date, and ask whether the certificate covers the company or the product. What the certificates measure is explained in the textile certifications guide.
Where is fabric production concentrated?
In the TOBB Industry Database, 580 of the 1,237 firms with a valid capacity report for woven fabrics (code 13.20) are in Bursa, and 698 of the 1,294 for knitted fabrics (code 13.91) are in Istanbul (October 2026). The data cover only manufacturers that applied for and hold a capacity report; trading companies and firms without a report are not counted.
The Textile, Leather and Clothing Industry Specialized Commission Report prepared for the Ninth Development Plan (2007–2013) and published by the State Planning Organization in 2007 (in Turkish) also names these fabric-related clusters: synthetic filament yarn and fabric in Bursa, cotton weaving and finishing in Adana, polypropylene and nonwovens in Gaziantep, and circular knitting in Istanbul. The report is the commission's own assessment of nearly twenty years ago. Today 40 of the 1,237 woven fabric firms in the TOBB records (about 3%) are in Adana; this is a firm count and does not show production volume. Use the province filter to find companies close to you: proximity makes sampling and factory visits easier.

Frequently asked questions
Is a swatch card enough when buying fabric, or do I need a sample too?
A swatch card (kartela in Turkish) is for appearance and handle. For dimensional change after washing, pilling and color fastness, measurements on a washed sample are needed. Ask for a sample and a test report before moving to production.
What is the difference between deadstock fabric and made-to-order fabric?
Deadstock fabric is ready and ships sooner, but color and quantity options are limited and a second order from the same lot cannot be guaranteed. With made-to-order fabric you decide color and weight, but the minimum order quantity and lead time are longer.
Does an OEKO-TEX certificate show that a fabric is good quality?
No. OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 is a testing and labeling system for harmful substances, and the standard text states that the label is not a quality label (Edition 01.2026). Ask separately for tests on shrinkage, pilling and color fastness.
What does the minimum order quantity for fabric depend on?
It varies from company to company with the fabric type, whether the color will be dyed to order and whether the fabric comes from stock or from production; there is no common standard. For stock fabric the limit is the quantity on hand; for made-to-order fabric the minimum can be defined per color or per design and may be higher than for stock. In a written quote, check whether the minimum applies per color or per order and whether the price is per kilogram or per meter.
In which provinces are fabric manufacturers in Turkey concentrated?
In the TOBB Industry Database, the largest share of the 1,237 firms with a valid capacity report for woven fabrics (product code 13.20) is in Bursa (580), followed by Denizli (225) and Istanbul (129). Of the 1,294 firms for knitted fabrics (13.91), 698 are in Istanbul, followed by Bursa (139) and Tekirdağ (108) (October 2026). The data cover only manufacturers that applied for and hold a capacity report, and the distribution may differ for your fabric type; use the province filter on the page.
