Key facts
- This page covers yarn sold on cones or bobbins by the kilogram or metric ton; loose fiber and sewing thread are in separate categories.
- According to Cotton Incorporated, ring-spun yarn costs more than open-end yarn; combing and plying are extra process steps, so they add cost.
- In October 2026, 77 of the 154 firms with a capacity report under the TOBB blended yarn code (13.10.83) are in Uşak; for cotton yarn, Kahramanmaraş has the most firms (56).
- Write the yarn count with the name of its system (for example Ne 30/1); '30/1' alone is not enough (Cotton Incorporated, ISP 1006).
- If BCI Cotton (formerly Better Cotton) is claimed, ask whether the cotton is sourced physically or under the mass balance model (BCI Claims Framework 4.1).

The yarn category lists spinning mills, yarn manufacturers and suppliers in Turkey that sell yarn for knitting or weaving. Here, yarn means the raw material sold on cones or bobbins by the kilogram or the metric ton. If you are looking for loose fiber (baled cotton, polyester fiber), see textile fibers; if you are looking for the spool or cone thread used for sewing in garment making, see sewing thread. If you are looking for fabric, go to the fabrics sector.
Sub-branches by fiber
The directory divides yarn by raw material. If you already know the fiber, go straight to that page:
- Cotton yarn: the basic yarn of knitted and woven fabric; the spinning system and whether the cotton is combed are what matter.
- Polyester yarn: both continuous filament yarn and staple-fiber yarn.
- Viscose yarn: cellulosic yarn with good drape and a soft handle.
- Acrylic yarn: wool-like in handle, mostly used in knitwear and knitted products.
- Wool yarn: worsted and woolen yarns.
- Blended yarn: yarns that combine two or more fibers.
- Spandex yarn: bare, covered and core-spun yarns that give stretch.
Specification, lot and certificates: what to ask a yarn supplier
Before you request a quote, put the following in writing:
- Yarn specification: count and ply with the name of the system (for example Ne 30/1), fiber composition, spinning system, and whether the yarn is raw or dyed.
- Quality data: a lot-based test report with values such as unevenness, imperfections and hairiness. For independent verification you can turn to testing laboratories.
- Lot and lead time: will the yarn come from stock or be spun for you? Can all of the fabric come from a single lot?
- MOQ and samples: the unit of quantity (kilograms, pallets), the lot size for a custom count or color, and cone samples for trials.
- Certificates: if OEKO-TEX, GOTS or GRS is claimed, the scope and validity date of the certificate. If BCI Cotton (formerly Better Cotton) is claimed, whether the cotton is sourced physically or under the mass balance model.
Raw fiber, count and spinning system set the yarn price
Yarn price depends on the price of the raw fiber, the count, the spinning system and additional processes. According to Cotton Incorporated's technical bulletin (ISP 1006), ring-spun yarn costs more than open-end yarn; combing and plying are extra process steps, so they add cost too. Dyed or special blended yarn comes with stricter lot conditions. Exchange rates, energy costs and payment terms also change the quote. The factors are covered in detail in what drives yarn prices.
Where are yarn manufacturers in Turkey?
As of October 2026, firms with a valid capacity report in the Industry Database of TOBB (the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey) are most numerous in Kahramanmaraş (56) and Gaziantep (51) for cotton yarn (product code 13.10.61), in Gaziantep (157) and Bursa (94) for folded or cabled man-made filament yarn (13.10.81), and in Uşak for blended yarn predominantly of synthetic staple fiber (13.10.83; 77 of 154 firms). The data cover only manufacturers holding a capacity report; because product coding can vary between reports, the distribution is approximate. Code 13.10.81 also covers other synthetic and artificial filament yarns, not just polyester.
An older source, the Textile, Leather and Clothing Industry Specialization Commission Report prepared for the Ninth Development Plan (State Planning Organization, 2007; in Turkish), names three clusters in yarn: cotton yarn, especially open-end, in Kahramanmaraş; synthetic filament yarn in Bursa; and woolen-spun (streichgarn) yarn in Uşak (for companies that recover fiber from textile waste, see textile recycling). This observation is about twenty years old; for a current picture, use the province filter on the page, and include the freight cost per kilogram and the transit time from a distant supplier in your quote comparison.
Write the count with its system name and compare quotes on the same specification
- Always write the count with the name of its system; “30/1” alone is not enough. For conversion between Ne, Nm, tex and denier, see the yarn count conversion guide.
- Compare quotes on the same yarn specification, unit of quantity and payment terms; prices with different payment terms are not comparable. Ask for the price per kilogram in USD or EUR with the Incoterm (for example FOB).

Frequently asked questions
What decides the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for yarn?
The supplier's production lot or dyeing lot. Ready yarn in stock may be sold in small quantities, while a count, composition or color made for you may require a full production lot. Ask in writing for the unit (kilograms, pallets, truckloads) and for the condition the quantity depends on.
Why does lot consistency matter in yarn?
Yarn sold under the same count can differ slightly between lots in strength, hairiness or color. In fabric this shows up as a difference in shade or appearance. Plan the fabric for one product from a single lot where possible, and record the lot number printed on the cone label.
Should I ask a yarn supplier for samples before placing a bulk order?
Yes. Ask for a few cones as samples and make a small knitted or woven trial. Assume that the sample and the bulk lot will not come out exactly the same; take a sample from the first bulk delivery as well and compare it with the approved sample.
