Bursa is a long-established textile province, best known for terry towels and other home textiles and for synthetic filament yarn and fabric. According to exporter-association records, it ranked third in textile and raw materials (yarn, fabric, fiber) exports in 2025 with US$1.18 billion (13%), behind Istanbul and Gaziantep, and fourth in ready-to-wear apparel with US$0.80 billion (5%) (AKİB, December 2025). Figures differ by source: the page of the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO), based on TİM (Turkish Exporters Assembly) data and carrying no data date, shows higher 2025 values for Bursa, US$1.29 billion in apparel and US$1.24 billion in textiles and raw materials. Compare provinces only within one source's table.
The textile cluster in Bursa
The State Planning Organization's 2007 textile report says that a cluster of floss (floş) and synthetic filament yarn and fabric formed in Bursa, formerly a silk center, because of the resemblance to silk. The report is almost twenty years old. The Ministry of Trade's home textiles report (2026 edition, based on 2025 data) names Bursa as a province where terry towel, tulle and bed sheet production is concentrated. BTSO lists the province's leading sectors as textiles, automotive, machinery and metal manufacturing, agriculture-based industry and food, and furniture; Bursa's exports in 2024 were US$18.19 billion (BTSO, July 2025 update).
Organized industrial zones and dye houses
According to BTSO's list, updated in January 2026, Bursa has 17 organized industrial zones (OSBs). One of them is TOSAB, the Bursa Textile Dye Houses Specialized OSB, which is dedicated to dye houses; the zone's website gives an address in Nilüfer district. If you need fabric dyed or finished, add Bursa to the province filter on the dye house list and ask each company separately about capacity and certificates.
Bursa Towel: a protected name
Bursa Towel (Bursa Havlusu) is an indication of source (mahreç işareti), a type of geographical indication, registered at the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT) on January 9, 2024 under Industrial Property Law No. 6769 (No 1519; application dated September 4, 2020). The registrant is the Bursa Commodity Exchange. As of this page's date (October 11, 2026), the registration text says the towel is woven from 100% cotton yarn, the geographical boundary is Bursa province and all production stages must take place within that boundary. Inspections are carried out under the coordination of the Exchange twice a year, when deemed necessary and upon complaint.
So not every towel made in Bursa is a Bursa Towel: the name is only for products that meet the specification, and it is used together with the logo and the indication-of-source emblem. If you plan to use the name on your product, check the current terms with the Bursa Commodity Exchange or a patent attorney. Specification values are covered in the glossary entry on terry towel fabric, and quality criteria in How to Judge Terry Towel Quality.
Finding suppliers in Bursa
- For towels, bed linen and tulle, see towels and bathrobes, bed linen and bedding and curtains. Fabric choices for bedding are explained in Bed Linen Fabric Types.
- For synthetic filament yarn, use the polyester yarn list.
- TİM's "ready-to-wear and apparel" sector also covers home textile product groups (in 2025, cotton home textiles alone were US$1.00 billion nationwide). Bursa's apparel figure may therefore not show garments only; ask the company directly about the product.
