- This category covers the fabric of sheers (tül), drapes (fon), blackout curtains and roller or zebra blinds; rods, tracks and mechanisms are separate product groups.
- Pleat ratio is the fabric width used divided by the window width: a 3 m window at a ratio of 2.5 needs 7.5 m of fabric width, and a higher ratio raises fabric use and price.
- Compare two quotes for the same window by total meters of fabric, lining, weight tape and labor, not only by the price per meter.
- Fabrics woven to cover sofas and chairs are in the upholstery fabric category; even where a fabric is used in both, the durability criteria differ.
- TOBB lists 260 firms with a capacity report for curtains and interior blinds (13.92.15): 69 in Istanbul, 60 in Bursa and 39 in Denizli (October 2026).
Guide to Curtains

Curtain buyers move between two separate markets: companies that sell ready-made or made-to-measure curtains, and weavers that sell curtain fabric by the meter. Both are on this page; decide which one you need before you request a quote.
Sheers, drapes, blackout and blinds: what the category covers
The category covers the fabric of sheers (tül: thin, light-transmitting), drapes (fon: heavy, reduces light and view), blackout curtains and system blinds such as roller and zebra blinds. Curtain rods, tracks and mechanisms are separate product groups. Fabrics woven to cover sofas and chairs are in the upholstery fabric category; even where a fabric is used in both, the durability criteria differ. To compare fabric types, see our article on curtain fabric types.
What to ask a curtain company: pleat ratio, fabric width and fastness
- Pleat ratio (fullness): how many times the window width the width of fabric used is, in other words how full the curtain is sewn. The ratio varies with curtain type and the drape you want; the higher it is, the more fabric is used and the higher the price. Ask which ratio the per-meter price is calculated on.
- Fabric width: on wide curtain fabric, the curtain drop is often cut across the fabric width (the fabric is run sideways), so no vertical seam is needed across the width; narrow fabric needs panels to be sewn side by side.
- Light fastness: ask for the test result against fading on a sun-facing facade.
- Flame retardancy: for hotels, schools, hospitals and other public use, flame-retardant or low-flammability fabric and a test report proving it are requested.
- Blackout: ask how the blackout level is measured and whether the fabric is coated or multi-layer woven.
Project and made-to-measure orders
For jobs that need many curtains, such as a hotel or housing project, the measuring, sewing and installation schedule matters as much as the fabric. For the same job, get in writing that the fabric comes from a single lot, what the risk of color difference is on a repeat order, and that the fabric will not change after sample approval. Ready-made curtains come in standard sizes with fast delivery; for made-to-measure orders, lead time depends on measurement approval and fabric stock.
Curtain pricing comes down to fabric type, fullness ratio and labor
Fabric type and decoration (plain weave, jacquard, embroidered, printed), the meters of fabric used together with the pleat ratio, lining and weight tape, and sewing and extra labor make up the price. For the same window, compare two quotes not only by price per meter but by the total meters of fabric and the labor items.
Curtains by city: production site and installation
In the Industry Database of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), 69 of the 260 firms with a valid capacity report for curtains and interior blinds (code 13.92.15) are in Istanbul, 60 in Bursa and 39 in Denizli; Ankara (22) and Antalya (13) follow (October 2026). The code covers made-up curtains and interior blinds; curtain fabric sold by the meter is under other codes. The Ministry of Trade's Home Textiles Sector Report (2026) also says production of sheer curtains (tül) is concentrated in Bursa and Istanbul.
For curtains, location is a practical matter on jobs that need measuring and installation in Turkey: ask whether the company sends a team and whether installation is included in the price. If you only buy fabric by the meter, the province matters less; samples and swatch cards can also arrive by courier. For towel, bed linen and carpet companies, go to the home textiles page.

Frequently asked questions
Do curtains for hotels, schools and other public spaces need a flame-retardancy certificate?
The requirement depends on the venue and the specification in force. Ask the company for the fabric's flame-retardancy or low-flammability test report and for which fabric and finish the report is valid; for a legal requirement, consult the project's architect or the competent authority.
How do I calculate how much fabric a curtain needs?
The fabric width needed is the window width multiplied by the pleat ratio. For example, a window 3 m wide with a pleat ratio of 2.5 needs 7.5 m of fabric width; how many meters of fabric that equals depends on the width of the fabric and the length of the curtain. Have the calculation written into the quote.
Do sheer curtains shrink in the wash?
It depends on the fiber. Sheers of cellulosic fibers such as cotton and viscose can shrink in the wash; shrinkage in polyester sheers is generally lower. Ask for the dimensional change result after washing and plan the curtain length with that allowance.
What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for curtains from a Turkish manufacturer?
There is no single figure; the minimum order quantity (MOQ) varies by company and by sales unit. The basis is pieces or sets for ready-made curtains, the number of windows or pieces for made-to-measure curtains, and usually meters or rolls for curtain fabric. The minimum is generally low for fabric and colors already in stock; it rises for a custom color, which needs a separate dye lot, and for print and jacquard designs, which need pattern preparation. Ask whether the minimum applies to each color and pattern separately or to the whole order; on a bulk job, have the quote state that the fabric will be set aside from a single lot.
What does lead time depend on for made-to-measure curtain orders?
There is no single lead time; it depends on measurement approval, on whether the fabric is in stock, and on how busy the company is. Ready-made curtains come in standard sizes, so they are delivered faster. If the fabric is not in stock, or the order needs custom embroidery or printing, making the fabric is added to the lead time. Have the quote state which day the lead time starts from (measurement approval, sample approval or advance payment) and whether installation is included; on a project with many windows, also ask whether delivery will be in one shipment or in batches.
