Guide to the textile industry in Gaziantep

Gaziantep is Turkey's leading carpet province by a wide margin and the second-largest in yarn, fabric and fiber exports after Istanbul, while its share of apparel exports is small. So look here for machine-made carpet, yarn and nonwovens, not for garments. The figures come from exporter-association records: according to the GAİB Carpet Exporters' Association, US$2.04 billion (71.8%) of Turkey's US$2.84 billion carpet exports in October 2025-September 2026 were registered to Gaziantep, with Istanbul at 19.3% and Usak at 3.6%. In textile and raw materials (yarn, fabric, fiber) exports Gaziantep ranked second in 2025 with US$1.53 billion (16%), behind Istanbul (US$3.80 billion) and ahead of Bursa (US$1.18 billion) (AKİB, December 2025). In ready-to-wear apparel it has a small place within the top ten, with US$0.16 billion (1%).

Carpet: mostly machine-made

In GAİB's carpet statistics, the association's carpet exports in October 2025-September 2026 were US$2.02 billion: US$1.69 billion machine-made carpet, US$0.30 billion tufted carpet, US$0.04 billion hand-made carpet and US$3.2 million kilims. Machine-made carpet is about 77% of Turkey's carpet exports (US$2.19 billion of US$2.84 billion; our calculation). "Carpet" covers very different products, so state the type you want, the pile yarn, the pile height, the density and the weight (g/m²) in your quote request. See the carpet and rug manufacturers page for more.

The textile cluster in Gaziantep

The State Planning Organization's 2007 textile report says that a polypropylene, nonwoven and machine-made carpet cluster has formed in Gaziantep; it describes machine-made carpet production as "small" for that period, and the report is almost twenty years old. According to GAİB, the province's total exports in October 2025-September 2026 were US$10.73 billion, of which carpet accounts for 19.0% and textile and raw materials 14.9%, together about 34% (our calculation).

The Gaziantep Chamber of Industry's industrial zones page (undated, with data up to 2019) lists textiles among the sectors of the Oğuzeli and Nizip OSBs (organized industrial zones), and machine-made carpet for the Oğuzeli OSB in particular. In the city, it mentions carpet and acrylic yarn production around Nizip Street, and carpet and knitwear production in the Ünaldı-Şehreküstü area. The page may be out of date, so treat these as pointers and verify each company's address and facility.

Frequently asked questions

How much of Turkey's carpet exports does Gaziantep account for?

According to the GAİB Carpet Exporters' Association, US$2.04 billion (71.8%) of Turkey's US$2.84 billion carpet exports in October 2025-September 2026 were registered to Gaziantep. Istanbul followed with 19.3% and Usak with 3.6%. The record shows the exporter's province, not where the carpet was woven.

Is Gaziantep a good place to source apparel?

Generally not. According to exporter-association records, Gaziantep's apparel exports were US$0.16 billion in 2025 (1%). For garments, look at the Istanbul (69%), Izmir (8%), Denizli (6%) and Bursa (5%) filters; Gaziantep is a better starting point for yarn, carpet and nonwovens (AKİB, December 2025).

What should a carpet quote specify?

GAİB's statistics divide carpet into machine-made carpet, tufted carpet, hand-made carpet and kilims, and the association's exports are mostly machine-made carpet (US$1.69 billion of US$2.02 billion). State the type, the pile yarn, the pile height, the density and the weight in the quote request.
