Sakarya's investment promotion portal lists automotive, machinery manufacturing, defense industry, rail vehicles and tourism as the province's main sectors suited to investment. Textiles are not on that list, but they do appear among the leading sectors of two organized industrial zones (OSBs) in the portal's OSB table (2021 data). According to the portal, the six OSBs in production employ about 25,000 people in 204 firms in total. When you look for a textile company in Sakarya, keep in mind that the OSBs are mixed-use and not every firm in them makes textiles.
Leading sectors in the OSBs
According to the portal's OSB table (2021), the Sakarya I OSB (1993, mixed) concentrates on automotive, textiles and metal; the Sakarya II OSB (1997) on base metals, plastics and food; and the Sakarya III OSB (1999) on food, building materials and textiles. The leading sectors of the Karasu OSB are metal, plastics and rubber, and those of the Ferizli OSB are metal, machinery and wood products. The Kaynarca Furniture Specialized OSB is dedicated to furniture and the Eastern Marmara Machinery Manufacturers Specialized OSB to machinery manufacturing. The portal does not separate textiles into apparel, woven goods or ready-to-wear, so you need to ask each company what it produces.
What the chamber shows
Among the 34 professional groups of the Sakarya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SATSO) are "Textile, Broderie and Ready-to-Wear" (group 24; Tekstil, Brode ve Konfeksiyon) and "Textile, Leather and Apparel Trade" (group 6; Tekstil, Deri ve Hazır Giyim Ticareti). In other words, the chamber organizes ready-to-wear and textile trade in separate groups. The chamber does not publish member counts for the groups on this page, so we cannot give a sourced figure for the number of companies.
Sourcing from Sakarya
Ask for the production address, the product group and the industry registry certificate (Sanayi Sicil Belgesi); an OSB address alone does not show textile production. The portal data is from 2021, so current company and employee numbers may differ. On the knit apparel, woven apparel, fabric and CMT sewing pages you can select Sakarya with the province filter. See How to Choose a CMT Workshop in Turkey for the criteria to assess a workshop.
