Key facts

  • This category covers face, hand, bath and beach towels, bathrobes, peshtemal and cotton bath mats; knitted terry fabric such as French terry is a garment material and out of scope.
  • EN 14697 defines minimum properties and test methods for terry towels and towel fabrics; for hotel and spa use, buyers can ask for a test report to a standard like this (EVS record).
  • A 2007 State Planning Organization report names Denizli as a towel, bathrobe and home textile cluster; a Denizli address does not show that every stage is done there.
  • TOBB lists 265 of 333 firms with a capacity report for cotton terry towels (13.92.14.30) in Denizli; bathrobes have no separate code, so the figure is for towels (October 2026).

Guide to Towels and Bathrobes

For a towel or bathrobe buyer, the first question is who weaves the product and who sews it. The companies on this page make or supply face, hand, bath and beach towels, bathrobes, Turkish towels (peshtemal), bath mats and hotel or spa sets.

Towels, bathrobes, peshtemals and bath mats: what the category covers

A towel is a woven product whose looped "pile" gives it absorbency. A bathrobe is mostly cut and sewn from this fabric or from waffle (honeycomb) weave. A peshtemal (peştamal in Turkish; often sold as a "Turkish towel") is a separate product, usually thin and flat-woven without pile, and it dries faster than a towel; say which one you want when you request a quote. Cotton bath mats and bath sets are also in this category; doormats and tufted mats are listed under carpets and rugs, and rubber, PVC and car mats are out of scope. Knitted terry fabrics such as French terry are garment materials and are outside this page. If you are looking for pile and ground yarn, see cotton yarn companies; the same buyers often want bed linen sets too.

Ask a towel supplier for pile yarn, absorbency and wash test data

A company that has its own looms and dye house is flexible on color and weight (GSM). A company that only sews buys its fabric from outside, and its lead time depends on that supplier. In either case, ask for:

  • The fiber type, twist and ply count of the pile yarn, plus GSM and pile height
  • Absorbency test results, before and after washing
  • Dimensional change after washing, color fastness and lint loss values
  • For contract use such as hotels and spas, a test report to a standard that defines minimum properties and test methods for terry towels and towel fabrics, such as EN 14697

How to read these criteria is explained in detail in our guide to judging terry towel quality.

Moving from stock colors and standard sizes to a custom color, size or logo raises the minimum order quantity (MOQ) noticeably, because a dye lot, weaving preparation (a jacquard design) or an embroidery program is needed. Ask for a quote with a color and size breakdown. For samples, get a swatch card (kartela) and a washable product sample with known dimensions; logo jobs usually take longer to sample.

Towel pricing comes down to pile yarn, GSM and weave type

A towel's price depends largely on the yarn used in the piece: fiber type, yarn count and weight (GSM). Finishing (dyeing and softening), weave type (plain, bordered, jacquard), logo, packaging, order quantity and the exchange rate used in the quote are added to that. Compare quotes on the same size and the same GSM; a lower-GSM towel looks cheaper but is not the same value.

Searching in Denizli

The State Planning Organization's Ninth Development Plan textile report (Ankara 2007, in Turkish) names Denizli as a cluster for towels, bathrobes and home textiles, so selecting Denizli in the province filter is a good start. Current data points the same way. In the Industry Database of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), 265 of the 333 firms with a valid capacity report for cotton terry towels (code 13.92.14.30) are in Denizli, as are 61 of the 67 firms reporting cotton terry toweling fabric (code 13.20.42) (October 2026). Because bathrobes have no separate product code, these figures reflect towels only; the province is that of the production facility the capacity report belongs to. The Ministry of Trade's Home Textiles Sector Report (2026) also says towel production is concentrated in Denizli and Bursa.

Our article on Denizli's home textile sector covers the structure of the cluster. A company being in Denizli does not show that weaving, dyeing and sewing are done under one roof; have the quote state at which facility each stage is done. For the other sub-sectors, see the home textiles page.

Frequently asked questions

Which method should I choose for a logo on towels?

There are three main methods: a jacquard-woven logo made during weaving, embroidery on the border, and printing. A jacquard logo is permanent and, because it needs weaving preparation, usually calls for a higher quantity; embroidery is possible at a lower quantity; the wash durability of a print should be tested. The right method depends on quantity, product and budget.

Should towels and bathrobes come from the same manufacturer?

Many companies offer both, but it is not required. A bathrobe is made by cutting and sewing terry fabric, so the company that weaves the fabric and the one that sews the bathrobe can be different. If you are buying a set, ask whether the pieces come from the same fabric lot, that is, whether the color is consistent.

Is towel pricing quoted per piece or per kilogram?

Both practices exist. Whichever unit is used, the size, weight (GSM) and weight tolerance must be stated in the quote; otherwise quotes from different companies cannot be compared.
