- Bed linen here means duvet cover sets, sheets, pillowcases, coverlets and bedspreads; comforters, pillows and mattress protectors are listed under pillows and comforters.
- Thread count alone does not decide quality; fiber quality, yarn fineness and finishing also affect the result.
- According to IDFL, ASTM's October 2005 definition counts warp and weft yarns as one unit each, whether single or plied, so counting each ply separately inflates the number.
- ATMI (American Textile Manufacturers Institute) told the FTC in January 2002 that counts of up to 1,000 were in many cases reached by counting each ply separately, which it called misleading.
- In the TOBB Industry Database, 277 of the 672 firms with a capacity report for bed linen, sheets and pillowcases (13.92.12) are in Denizli, 105 in Istanbul and 66 in Bursa (October 2026).
Guide to Bed Linen

Buyers of bed linen and bedspreads look for two different jobs in one category: weaving and printing the fabric, and making the fabric into sets. Read from a company's profile which of these it does; a company that does not do both is normal.
Duvet covers, sheets and bedspreads: what the category covers
The category covers the fabric layers of the bed: duvet cover sets (duvet cover, sheet, pillowcases), coverlets (called pike in Turkish) and bedspreads. Here pike is a bed-covering product; piqué, the fabric used for polo shirts and corporate wear, is a separate fabric category. For comforters (duvets), pillows, sleep sets and mattress protectors (alez), see pillows and comforters; for blankets and throws, see blankets. Sprung or foam mattress bodies are outside this page; they are products of the mattress and furniture industry. If you only need fabric, see the relevant fabric page, for example satin fabric companies.
Fabric choice and thread count
Ranforce (the Turkish trade term for a cotton bed-linen fabric), satin, percale and flannel are common bed linen fabrics; the differences are explained in our article on bed linen fabrics. Alongside the fabric type, you will see the yarn density (thread count) in quotes. Thread count does not determine quality on its own: fiber quality, yarn fineness and finishing also affect the result. In counting, a plied yarn counts as a single yarn: according to IDFL, ASTM's October 2005 definition counts warp and weft yarns as one unit each, whether they are single or plied. By contrast, in a January 2002 letter to the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the American Textile Manufacturers Institute (ATMI) wrote that counts of up to 1,000 were in many cases reached by counting each ply of a plied yarn separately, and that it considered this misleading. So question the number: "How did you count plied yarn?"
At the quote and sampling stage
- Shrinkage: cotton bed linen changes in length and width after washing. Ask for a washed sample and the shrinkage percentage; for details, see our guide on how to prevent fabric shrinkage.
- Set match: are the duvet cover, sheet and pillowcases cut from the same fabric lot? Different lots can show color differences.
- Print and fastness: on patterned products, ask about the wash durability of the print method and the color fastness results.
- Sets that include a comforter or pillow: ask for the filling type, its weight and the cover fabric separately; for these products, see pillows and comforters.
Minimum order and price
With stock designs and colors, working in small quantities is often possible. With a custom design or color the minimum order quantity (MOQ) grows, because the fabric needs a print or dye lot. The items that set the price are the fabric (fiber, yarn fineness, weave), whether it is plain dyed or printed, set contents, closure type (zip, button, envelope), packaging and quantity. Compare quotes on the same set contents and the same fabric specifications.
Reading the province filter
In the Industry Database of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), 277 of the 672 firms with a valid capacity report for bed linen, sheets and pillowcases (code 13.92.12) are in Denizli, 105 in Istanbul and 66 in Bursa; Kayseri (47) and Izmir (27) follow (October 2026). The count covers only manufacturers that hold a capacity report, by the province of the production facility the report belongs to.
In bed linen, weaving, printing and sewing can be done by different companies, so a company's province does not show which stage of the product is made there. Ask whether printing on patterned sets is done in the company's own plant or by a subcontractor. For general information on home textile clusters, see the home textiles sector page.

Frequently asked questions
How should I specify sizes when ordering duvet cover sets?
Give the width and length of each piece in centimeters: duvet cover, sheet (including the mattress depth if it is fitted) and pillowcase. Add the tolerance for shrinkage and seam allowance, and fix the size chart at sample approval.
Are comforters and pillows listed in this category?
No. Comforters (duvets), pillows, sleep sets and mattress protectors are listed under pillows and comforters, and blankets and throws under blankets. This category lists duvet cover sets, sheets, pillowcases, coverlets (pike) and bedspreads. If you want a set that includes a comforter or pillows, look at the pillows and comforters category; if you only need a cover and sheet set, look here.
Should bed linen be 100% cotton or a cotton-polyester blend?
It depends on the use. Cotton breathes and is the usual choice; polyester blends generally crease less and tend to shrink less, so they can be preferred in contract use with frequent washing. Whichever composition you choose, the fiber ratio should be stated as a percentage on the label and in the quote.
What decides the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for bed linen?
There is no single figure. With stock designs and colors, working in small quantities is often possible; with a custom design or color the MOQ grows, because the fabric needs a print or dye lot. Have the quote state whether the quantity is counted by set or by piece, and per color and design or in total.
In which provinces are bed linen manufacturers concentrated in Turkey?
In the Industry Database of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), 277 of the 672 firms with a valid capacity report for bed linen, sheets and pillowcases (code 13.92.12) are in Denizli, 105 in Istanbul and 66 in Bursa; Kayseri (47) and Izmir (27) follow (October 2026). Because weaving, printing and sewing can be done by different companies, the province does not show the stage: ask in the quote which stage is done where.
