Mersin is not one of Turkey's main textile clusters, but its apparel exports are growing fast. According to TÜİK (the Turkish Statistical Institute) provisional data, apparel exports by Mersin firms rose to US$329.7 million in 2025 (2024: US$166.1 million), and textile products reached US$120.8 million. Together they are about 5% of the province's US$8.4 billion in total exports (Tekstil Rehberi calculation; Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MTSO), Economic Report 2025).
Apparel is third in industrial employment
According to industrial registry records, apparel manufacturing is tied with metal products as Mersin's third-largest sector by number of employees: food has 26%, non-metallic mineral products 11%, and apparel and metal products 10% each (Ministry of Industry and Technology Mersin Provincial Directorate data, via MTSO). By number of workplaces, apparel is not among the top six sectors. In other words, apparel appears to be carried by relatively few but labor-heavy businesses (Tekstil Rehberi interpretation).
Industrial zones are not textile-focused
Among producing firms in the Mersin OSB (organized industrial zone), 25% are in food, 15% in metal products, 10% in chemicals and 8% in rubber and plastics. The Tarsus OSB was founded as a food-specialized zone and has been a mixed OSB since 2019. At the end of 2025, 10 of its firms were in production and 80 were at the construction or project stage, and textiles are not among the sectors of the producing firms. So do not rely on a company being located in an OSB. Check the factory's actual address and its industry registry certificate (Sanayi Sicil Belgesi).
Apparel and yarn exports
According to reports by the Mediterranean Exporters' Associations (AKİB), Mersin ranked fifth in ready-to-wear apparel exports in January-September 2026 with US$412.2 million, after Istanbul, Izmir, Denizli and Bursa (3% of Turkey's total). A year earlier the figure was US$160.0 million. Exports of yarn, fabric and fiber reached US$75.6 million in the same period (up 75%), and the province ranked tenth in that table. These are exporter-association records: the registered province is not necessarily the province where the product was made, and the source does not explain the increase.
Yarn and nonwovens
A 2021 report on the TR62 region (Adana and Mersin) by the Ministry of Industry and Technology and UNDP shows that, according to TOBB (Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey) records, Mersin had registered producers in February 2021 in preparation and spinning of textile fiber (yarn; 11 producers, 491 employees) and in nonwovens (11 producers, 677 employees). The same report says textiles hold a small place in the province's total exports. The data is from 2021, so confirm current capacity with the company.
