Key facts

  • This category covers loose fiber sold by the kilogram, bale or ton: cotton lint, polyester staple fiber (PSF), acrylic, viscose, recycled fiber and fill fiber.
  • Turkey produced 830,000 metric tons of cotton lint in 2024/25, about half of its 1.63 million tons of domestic consumption; 971,000 tons were imported (TEPGE, July 2026).
  • Turkey applies anti-dumping duty to polyester staple fiber from India, Chinese Taipei and Thailand: 3.20–6.00% of CIF value for colored and 6.40–12.00% for other fiber (as of October 2026).
  • GRS applies to products with at least 20% recycled content; a product-specific GRS label requires at least 50% (Textile Exchange, GRS 5.0).
  • Most recycled polyester still comes from plastic bottles; textile-to-textile recycling is under 1% of the global fiber market (Textile Exchange, 2025).

Guide to Textile Fibers

Textile fiber is loose fiber sold by the kilogram, bale or metric ton before it is spun into yarn or made into fabric. This page lists suppliers in Turkey of cotton lint (ginned raw cotton fiber), polyester staple fiber (PSF), acrylic, viscose, recycled fiber and fill fiber (fiberfill: siliconized and ball fiber). The buyers are companies that purchase by the bale or ton, not retail shoppers: spinning mills, nonwoven producers and makers of filled products such as pillows, comforters and toys. Parent sector: Fibers, Dyes and Chemicals.

Textile fiber, yarn and padding: where the category ends

  • Spun or continuous filament yarn: Yarn.
  • Padding (vatka in Turkish trade) is two different products: shoulder pads (a garment trim) belong under interlining; roll, fiber or quilted wadding belongs under nonwovens; loose fill fiber belongs in this category.
  • Finished pillows and comforters filled with fiber: Pillows and Comforters.
  • A company that collects textile waste and sells recycled fiber should also select Textile Recycling. For dyes and process chemicals, the sister category is Textile Chemicals and Dyes.
  • Glass and carbon fiber used to reinforce composites are outside this guide.

What to put in a fiber quote request

Spinning mills group cotton bales by strength, length, micronaire (fiber thickness) and color, and blend many bales together to even out differences between lots (Cotton Incorporated). Put the following in your quote request:

  • Cotton: strength, length, micronaire and color values per bale, and the origin of the cotton.
  • Synthetic and viscose fiber: fiber type, fineness (denier or dtex), cut length and crimp. Synthetic staple fiber is made by crimping a bundle of continuous filaments (tow) and cutting it into short lengths (Cotton Incorporated).
  • Fill fiber: siliconized or not, hollow or solid, cut length, undyed or dyed.
  • Lot: whether the order will come from a single lot, and what difference you accept between the sample and the delivered lot.

Recycled fiber: documents and raw material

Most recycled polyester worldwide still comes from plastic bottles, and textile-to-textile recycling is less than 1% of the global fiber market (Textile Exchange, 2025). So ask whether the raw material is bottles or textile waste, and have the claim documented under GRS. As of October 2026 the latest version is GRS 5.0 (July 2026): it applies to products with at least 20% recycled content, and a product-specific GRS label requires at least 50%. Only pre-consumer and post-consumer material counts as recycled content; scrap that can be reclaimed within the same process does not. Ask the seller for a valid scope certificate (SC) and a transaction certificate (TC) for your shipment. The checking steps are in the textile certifications guide. If you are unsure what a certificate covers, ask the certification body.

Cotton: Turkish production, imports and origin

According to the July 2026 report of Turkey's Agricultural Economics and Policy Development Institute (TEPGE), Turkey produced 830,000 metric tons of cotton lint in the 2024/25 season. That covered only about half of domestic consumption of 1.63 million tons, and 971,000 tons were imported in the same season. Production fell to 716,000 tons in 2025/26. In 2025, 41.7% of cotton output came from Şanlıurfa, 18.2% from Diyarbakır and 11.6% from Aydın. Because supply mixes domestic and imported cotton, ask the seller to state the origin in writing. We could not find a current source for where synthetic and fill fiber suppliers are located; use the province filter on this page to find suppliers and add freight to your comparison.

Units, minimum order and import duty

Ask for the unit (bale, pallet or ton) and the delivery term (Incoterms) in the quote, find out whether the product ships from stock or is made to order, and request export prices in USD or EUR. There is no fixed industry value for the minimum order (MOQ).

Turkey treats imported polyester staple fiber differently by origin. Under Communiqué 2026/1 (Official Gazette, January 30, 2026), an anti-dumping duty applies to PSF originating in India, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) and Thailand: depending on the company, 3.20–6.00% of the CIF (cost, insurance and freight) value for colored fiber and 6.40–12.00% for other fiber. The measure runs for five years, and this information holds as of this page's date (October 2026). If you buy through a Turkish trader, ask whether the fiber is domestic or imported. If you import into Turkey yourself, confirm with a customs broker whether another origin faces a separate measure or an additional customs duty, and compare domestic and imported quotes with duties included.

Frequently asked questions

What decides the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for fiber?

There is no fixed industry value; it depends on the product and the supplier's production plan. A standard product in stock can be bought in smaller quantities, while a special fineness, cut length, color or certified recycled content may require a larger lot. Ask in writing for the unit (bale, pallet, ton) and the condition the minimum depends on.

What determines the price of fiber?

For cotton, the price of cotton lint and its origin; for synthetic fiber, fineness, cut length, crimp, color and certified recycled content; for imported material, duties and the delivery term. According to TEPGE, the average price of cotton lint rose 11% in 2025 to 63.94 TL/kg (July 2026). That is a Turkish domestic reference in lira, not a quote. Ask for export quotes in USD or EUR with an Incoterm, and compare them on the same unit, payment term and delivery term.

Which documents should I ask for with recycled fiber?

A GRS (Global Recycled Standard) scope certificate (SC) for the supplier and the transaction certificate (TC) for the shipment in question. Under GRS 5.0 the standard applies to products with at least 20% recycled content, and a product-specific GRS label requires at least 50%. The pre-consumer and post-consumer percentages are recorded separately for each batch and appear on the transaction certificate. Also ask in writing where the raw material comes from.

Will the delivered lot match my sample?

Lots can differ; spinning mills even out the difference by blending many bales together (Cotton Incorporated). Write the approved sample's values and tolerances into the purchase order: strength, length, micronaire and color for cotton; fineness, cut length and crimp for synthetic fiber. Compare each delivery against them.
