Key facts

  • In standard sublimation, the disperse dye transfers onto synthetic fibers such as polyester and nylon, not onto cotton fibers (Cotton Incorporated, 2018).
  • Epson's SureColor F2270 manual calls for pre-treatment liquid before printing on polyester T-shirts, and before printing white ink on cotton T-shirts.
  • Printing machines fall into two groups: those that print fabric in the roll (rotary, flatbed screen, digital, transfer) and those that print cut pieces or garments (DTG, DTF, presses).
  • Epson's SureColor F2270 manual calls for regular agitation of white ink in DTG and protective maintenance if the machine will not run for a long time.
  • For discharge printing, ink suppliers ask for the dryer's exhaust air to be vented outside (Ryonet).

Guide to Textile Printing Machines

Textile printing machine and equipment suppliers are companies that sell DTG, DTF, sublimation and screen printing machines, together with heat presses and drying equipment. If you want a workshop to do the printing for you, look under textile printing. Fixation and washing machines sold separately from a printing line, such as steamers and wash units, are in the dyeing and finishing machines category. For which method suits which fabric, see our guide to textile printing techniques; if you are choosing between DTG and DTF, read DTF vs DTG printing.

A printing machine quote is more than the printer

Once you have chosen a method, do not limit the quote to the machine. List the whole line:

  • DTG (direct-to-garment): printer, pre-treatment application, and a press or dryer to fix the print
  • DTF (direct-to-film): printer, transfer film, adhesive powder, a dryer that melts the powder, and a heat press
  • Sublimation: printer, transfer paper and press
  • Screen printing: stencil preparation, printing table and a dryer for curing

Running cost, maintenance and site needs: questions for the printing machine supplier

  • Fabrics: Which fabrics and fiber blends does the machine support? What does the technical data sheet say about blended fabrics? Ask for a sample print and a wash test on your actual fabric.
  • Running cost: How is the consumables cost per print calculated, including ink, film, powder, paper and pre-treatment liquid? Companies that sell these consumables are listed separately under textile printing inks, so you can compare the machine seller's consumables prices with the suppliers there.
  • Maintenance: What is the routine? Ask about print-head cleaning, ink shelf life and head replacement cost. In DTG, white ink settling and head clogging after long idle periods are known risks; manufacturers' manuals call for regular agitation of white ink and protective maintenance before long stoppages.
  • Software: Are color management and the RIP software license included in the price?
  • Site requirements: What are the ventilation, electricity and floor-space needs? For discharge printing, ink suppliers ask for the dryer's exhaust air to be vented outside, so ask about ducting.
  • Training and support: How many days does operator training take, and is it in the quote? How quickly does a technician arrive if a print head fails? Also look at textile machinery repair companies.
  • Delivery: Who ships and installs the machine, and on which Incoterms rule is the quote based? If it will be installed outside Turkey, ask who provides service there.

Print area and width, print-head type and number, speed, automation, software, extra equipment (press, dryer, pre-treatment unit) and consumables all affect the price. Monthly consumables and maintenance costs weigh on the decision as much as the machine price, so compare quotes on the same print area and the same assumed monthly volume.

Where are Turkish printing machine makers located?

According to the TOBB Industry Database, most manufacturers with a valid capacity report for textile printing machines (product code 28.94.15.30) are in Istanbul (October 2026). In English, TOBB is called the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey. The code excludes letterpress, offset, flexographic and gravure printing machines; screen printing machines such as carousel, flatbed and rotary screen machines fall under it. Whether DTG, DTF and sublimation printers are included in this count is unclear. The statement covers firms that make machines in Turkey; it does not include dealers of imported brands.

Test the method at a print workshop before you invest

If your demand is irregular or has not been measured yet, first use a print workshop to test which method suits your products; this lowers the risk of a wrong investment. Compare the machine's hourly and daily capacity with the pieces you will print, and its print area with your largest design. For other machine groups, see textile machinery.

Frequently asked questions

Can I print cotton T-shirts with a sublimation machine?

Not with standard sublimation. The disperse dye transfers onto synthetic fibers such as polyester and nylon, not onto cotton fibers (Cotton Incorporated, 2018). If your products are mostly cotton, compare DTG, DTF or screen printing equipment instead of a sublimation printer and press. For blended fabrics, ask for a sample print at your own polyester percentage.

Does DTG printing need pre-treatment?

It depends on the machine, the ink system and the fabric. For example, Epson's SureColor F2270 manual calls for pre-treatment liquid to be applied beforehand when printing on polyester T-shirts, or when printing white ink on cotton T-shirts. Ask the supplier how the liquid is applied and dried, and have the equipment needed added to the quote. DTF prints onto film, so the garment itself is not pre-treated.

Is every machine sold as a textile printing machine meant for the same job?

No. One group prints fabric while it is still in the roll: rotary, flatbed screen, industrial digital and yardage transfer machines. Depending on the dye class, these may also need extra units for fixation (steaming or curing) and washing. Machines sold separately from a printing line, such as steamers and wash units, are not listed on this page but in the Dyeing and Finishing Machines category. The other group prints cut pieces or finished garments: DTG and DTF printers, garment screen printing tables, sublimation presses and heat transfer vinyl (flex) presses. Ask the supplier in writing which group the machine belongs to and which additional units it needs.

What does the price of a textile printing machine depend on?

Print area and width, print-head type and number, speed, automation, software and extra equipment (press, dryer, pre-treatment unit) affect the price. Monthly consumables and maintenance costs weigh on the decision as much as the machine price, so compare quotes on the same print area and the same assumed monthly volume.

In which Turkish provinces are textile printing machine makers located?

According to the TOBB Industry Database, most manufacturers with a valid capacity report for textile printing machines (product code 28.94.15.30) are in Istanbul (October 2026). This covers firms that make machines in Turkey; it does not show dealers of imported brands. For service support, search for companies in the province where the machine will be installed with the province filter in the directory. Whether DTG, DTF and sublimation printers are included in this count is unclear.
