Key facts

  • As of October 8, 2026, Turkey's work equipment regulation requires the employer who will operate a machine to make sure the equipment meets the minimum requirements in Annex I (art. 6).
  • Under the same regulation, the written instructions given to workers are prepared taking the manufacturer's Turkish user manual into account (art. 10).
  • In Turkey, a new machine is sold with the CE marking and the manufacturer's EC declaration of conformity; for a used machine, ask whether these documents and the manual still exist.
  • With a machine acquired through financial leasing, ownership stays with the leasing company while the lease runs (Law No. 6361), so confirm that the seller owns the machine.

Guide to Used Textile Machinery

Used textile machinery dealers are the dealers and companies that sell, buy or refurbish used textile machinery; individual machine listings are in the listings section. A machine's age alone decides nothing: its condition, the availability of parts and after-sales support matter as much as the price. For how to inspect the machine itself, see our guide to used industrial machinery; this page focuses on choosing a company.

Ask a used machinery dealer about origin, refurbishment and parts

  • Where did the machine come from? Are the model, year of manufacture and serial number documented? Is the seller the owner or an intermediary?
  • What does “refurbished” or “serviced” cover? Ask in writing for the parts replaced and the adjustments made.
  • Are spare parts for the model still available? Confirm with textile machinery spare parts suppliers; parts can be hard to find for a discontinued model.
  • Is a warranty, or at least a trial or return period, offered?
  • Who handles dismantling, transport, installation and commissioning, and where is the delivery point? If the machine will leave Turkey, ask which Incoterms rule applies. Also consider textile machinery repair support for installation and setup.

Safety and documents

A new machine is sold with the CE marking and the manufacturer's EC declaration of conformity. For a used machine, ask whether these documents and the operating manual still exist.

If the machine will run in a Turkish workplace, note the following. As of the date of this page (October 8, 2026), Turkey's Regulation on Health and Safety Requirements for the Use of Work Equipment (text in Turkish) requires the employer who will operate the machine to make sure the equipment meets the minimum requirements in Annex I (art. 6). Under the same regulation, the written instructions given to workers are prepared taking the manufacturer's Turkish user manual into account (art. 10), so plan up front how you will fill that gap if the manual is missing. If guards or stopping devices are incomplete, include the cost of fitting them in your price negotiation. For obligations specific to your machine, consult your occupational health and safety specialist.

Age, condition and refurbishment scope set the price of a used machine

Brand and model, year of manufacture, general condition, the scope of any refurbishment, equipment (such as a servo motor or thread trimmer), availability of parts, and the cost of dismantling, transport and installation all set the price. When you compare with a new machine, check whether warranty, training and service support are part of the used offer. If you need a sewing machine, also collect quotes for new machines from industrial sewing machine suppliers. If you plan to finance the purchase with a loan or an incentive, ask the lender or the agency beforehand whether used machinery qualifies.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to buy a second-hand machine from listing photos?

It is not recommended. If possible, see the machine in person while it is running and test it with your own fabric and yarn. If you cannot visit, ask for a recent video of the machine running and a photo of the serial number plate. Do not close a deal with a seller who allows no trial until the return and exchange terms are clear in writing.

Is a refurbished machine the same as a used machine?

No. “Used” only says that the machine has been in use. Where a listing says a machine has been refurbished or serviced, the scope depends on the seller; ask in writing which parts were replaced and which adjustments were made.

Which documents should I ask for when buying a used machine?

The invoice, model and serial number details, the manufacturer's EC declaration of conformity and the operating manual if they exist, the warranty or sales terms, and the scope of transport and installation. Also confirm that the seller owns the machine: with a machine acquired through financial leasing, ownership stays with the leasing company while the lease runs. For tax, invoicing and contract questions, consult your accountant.

What decides the price of a used textile machine?

Brand and model, year of manufacture, general condition, the scope of any refurbishment, equipment (such as a servo motor or thread trimmer) and availability of parts set the price; the cost of dismantling, transport and installation also goes into the total. Even the same model can be priced differently depending on its condition, so judge the price by the condition of the machine you actually see, not by the model name. When you compare with a new machine, check whether warranty, training and service support are part of the used offer.

How long does delivery of a used machine take?

It depends on whether the machine is ready and running at the seller, whether refurbishment is needed, and who will handle dismantling, transport and installation, and when. The time varies by seller and machine; get the delivery date and who is responsible for transport and installation in writing. If the machine will leave Turkey, also ask which Incoterms rule applies.
