List your company for freeSingle jersey (süprem in Turkish) is the general-purpose fabric of T-shirts and basic knitwear, so quotes in this category often look alike on paper. The structure is explained in the single jersey glossary entry; this page covers what to check when choosing a single jersey manufacturer or supplier in Turkey. For other fabrics in the same family, see knitted fabric; for a fuller fabric whose edges do not curl, see interlock suppliers.
Two quotes that both say “single jersey, 100% cotton, 160 g/m²” can describe very different fabrics. An important source of the difference is the yarn: combed (penye in Turkish) or carded, ring-spun or open-end, and which count (Ne 30/1, Ne 20/1 and so on; Ne is the English cotton count). According to Cotton Incorporated's yarn bulletin (ISP 1006), ring-spun yarn is the softest and most expensive of the spinning systems; open-end is cheaper, but its handle is harsher and the yarn is weaker.
Ask for the spec in one line: “Single jersey, 100% cotton, Ne 30/1 combed ring-spun yarn, 160 g/m², shrink-resistant finish”. For the difference between combed, carded and open-end yarn, see the guide to combed, carded and open-end yarn.
All fabrics knitted in the single jersey structure: plain, slub (flamlı) or melange yarn; 100% cotton, cotton-elastane, cotton-polyester, or knitted from viscose and polyester yarns. The slub and melange look comes from the yarn (an effect yarn, or a blend of differently colored fibers), not from the knit, so write these in the quote separately from the structure. In the Turkish market, single jersey is also sold as “penye kumaş” (penye fabric) and as jarse, but neither name is an exact synonym: penye is the name of a combed cotton yarn, and jersey (jarse) is a broader fabric name that Turkish suppliers also apply to double-bed knits. In the quote, write the structure as “single jersey”. If you are looking for finished T-shirts, this is not the right page; the product category that lists T-shirt manufacturers is.
A note on location: TOBB has no product code specific to single jersey; for knitted fabrics overall (code 13.91), 698 of the 1,294 firms with a valid capacity report are in Istanbul, 139 in Bursa and 108 in Tekirdağ (October 2026). This is the overall distribution of knitted fabric manufacturers, not of single jersey manufacturers; verify a single jersey producer with the province filter and the quote.
To understand the gap between two quotes at the same GSM, compare the yarn first; then look at the elastane percentage, dyeing and shrink-resistant finish, and the minimum order per color (MOQ). Yarn prices can fluctuate, so ask how long the quote is valid. When you compare offers from different suppliers, also ask which Incoterms rule (EXW, FOB and so on) each price is based on.
The structure (single jersey), fiber composition in percentages, the yarn (combed or carded, ring-spun or open-end, Ne count), GSM and the state in which it was measured, open width and the finish (shrink-resistant or not). GSM comes out differently in the greige (raw), finished and relaxed states, so write which state is meant.
There is no standard range. The ranges suppliers give for T-shirt single jersey mostly start at 120 g/m² (about 3.5 oz/yd²), and the upper limit is 180 to 220 g/m² (about 5.3 to 6.5 oz/yd²) depending on the source. Write the target GSM together with the state in which it was measured.
Yarn twist influences spirality (twisting after washing). Cotton Incorporated's bulletin ISP 1009 states that high-twist cotton single yarns give more shrinkage and more twisting, while open-end (rotor) yarns show less twisting in the fabric and in the garment. Ask for spirality as well as length and width change in the sample test report.
For close-fitting garments that should stretch and spring back. One Turkish knitted-fabric manufacturer offers elastane single jersey as 95% cotton, 5% elastane at 160–220 g/m² (about 4.7 to 6.5 oz/yd²), for body-hugging T-shirts and bodysuits. Have the elastane percentage written in the quote and on the delivery documents.
Compare the yarn first: combed or carded, ring-spun or open-end, and the Ne count. According to Cotton Incorporated (ISP 1006), ring-spun yarn is the softest and most expensive of the spinning systems; open-end is cheaper. After the yarn, the elastane percentage, dyeing and shrinkage-control finish, and the minimum order per color affect the price. Yarn prices can fluctuate, so ask how long the quote is valid.
