List your company for freeGabardine is a dense fabric woven in a twill weave, with the diagonal lines typical of twill visible on its surface. According to the Turkish Language Association (TDK) dictionary it can be fine wool or cotton. Companies listed here weave gabardine on their own looms, dye and finish it, or sell it wholesale. This page is for the fabric; if you are looking for pants, skirts or jackets sewn from gabardine, see pants and trousers and suits and blazers manufacturers. Denim, set apart by its indigo-dyed warp, is also in the twill family; for it see denim fabric, and for all woven types see woven fabrics.
CottonWorks describes 3×1 twill as a structure used in heavier bottom-weight fabrics such as denim, chino and gabardine, giving higher tear strength. The source gives this structure as an example, not as the single definition of gabardine, so ask the supplier for the twill ratio and density. If you are buying for pants, skirts or jackets, plan the fabric together with the sewing workshop: the workshop should see how the fabric behaves in a sample.
Fiber type (wool, cotton or synthetic blend), weaving density, elastane, dyeing, special finishes such as water repellency and order quantity drive the price. Compare quotes per meter at the same composition, weight and width. Our fabric types guide helps with naming and weave families.
Test the sample under your own washing and pressing conditions before cutting: dimensional change, appearance after pressing and color fastness only become clear on a processed fabric. Write the results next to the quoted values; if they differ, settle it with the supplier before ordering.
The Turkish Language Association (TDK) dictionary defines gabardine as a fine, tightly woven wool or cotton fabric, and blends may also be offered on the market. So have the quote state the fiber in percentages, the twill ratio (2×1, 3×1 and so on), density, weight, open width and finish separately; if there is elastane, add its percentage and the stretch and recovery values.
Both are in the twill family: CottonWorks counts denim and gabardine among the heavier bottom-weight fabrics woven in 3×1 twill. One clear difference is dyeing: in denim the warp is dyed with indigo and the weft is left undyed. The name gabardine does not describe a particular dyeing method, and its fiber may also differ from denim.
It can; each dye lot is a separate production. Approve the color on a sample under the same light, refer to the approved sample on repeat orders and get the acceptable difference between lots in writing.
They depend on whether the fabric comes from stock or is woven and dyed to order, and on the minimum yardage per color. Values differ from firm to firm, so get the minimum yardage per color and the shipping date in writing.
