List your company for freeThe pants category covers the factories and CMT (cut, make, trim) workshops that make classic, chino and tailored pants (trousers) from woven fabric. Jeans are under denim apparel; knitted track pants and joggers are under tracksuits and joggers.
In the TOBB Industry Database, 1,025 of the 1,511 firms with a valid capacity report for women’s woven pants and shorts (product code 14.13.35) and 738 of the 1,305 for men’s (14.13.24) are in Istanbul (October 2026). These codes also include the subcodes for denim pants and bib overalls. Only capacity-report holders are counted here.
Pants sell on the fit of the pattern: if waist, hip and leg length do not work together, the buyer is not satisfied however good the fabric and workmanship are. So first ask who prepares the pattern and the size range; you can also get this support from pattern making and grading companies. In the size chart, waist and leg length should be written separately, and each combination needs its own measurement check. In stretch woven fabric, the stretch percentage changes the fit and the measurement tolerance, so ask for the fabric’s elastane content and its recovery value.
Among the points under strain in pants are the waistband, the fly and the pocket openings; the men’s trousers module of the Turkish vocational training program (MEGEP) notes that reinforcing stitching at a pocket opening can be done on a bar-tack machine. Ask the company which interlining it uses in the waistband, which machine makes the buttonhole and button, and whether it applies bar-tacks at these points.
Who supplies the zipper, and to what specification, should be written in the quote; for order details, see our guide to zipper types and sizes. In the front fly of pants, a short zipper puts a heavy load on the bottom stop, and YKK recommends a stitching method called saddle stitch in this case.
Pants are made of long panels, so fabric consumption is a deciding cost item. Marker efficiency (the layout plan of the pattern pieces on the fabric) determines wastage, and with striped or patterned fabric cutting can use more fabric. For the meter calculation, see how many meters of fabric a garment takes. Have the wastage allowance and the return of leftover fabric written into the quote.
In classic pants the crease and overall appearance are given by pressing. If garment washing is also needed, ask in which workshop and how long these jobs take. In the quote, you should see fabric consumption, operations such as pockets, belt loops, buttonhole and zipper, sample rounds and intermediate processes on separate lines.
There is no single right number; fabric weight, style and the washing process decide. One zipper maker’s jeans and pants series comes in sizes 3, 4 and 5. A “type 5” sold in Turkey may not be the same product as a size 5 in a catalog, so in the order state the tooth type and the tooth width in millimeters.
There is no fixed number and no sourced average; it varies with the style, the fabric and the size chart. The sample flow usually consists of a proto, a fit sample, a size-set sample and a pre-production (PP) sample. Ask how many fit rounds are included in the price and what an extra round costs.
