List your company for freeThe dresses category covers the factories and CMT (cut, make, trim) workshops that make everyday, office and casual dresses from woven fabric, in chiffon, satin, crêpe, velvet, linen or viscose weaves. For wedding gowns, evening dresses, engagement and prom dresses, see wedding and evening dresses. For dresses sewn from knitted fabric such as single jersey or interlock, see knit apparel companies. If you will also produce jackets with your dresses, bear in mind that a jacket needs a different specialty; those companies are on the suits and blazers page. Shirts and pants have their own pages under woven apparel.
Of the 1,278 firms with a valid TOBB capacity report for women's woven dresses (product code 14.13.34.70.00), 801 are in Istanbul, 90 in Bursa and 76 in Izmir (October 2026). The code also includes denim dresses; wedding and evening dresses are under separate codes. Companies without a capacity report do not appear in these figures.
A dress is a single piece, so a fabric flaw or a hang defect shows at once. Spreading and cutting slippery fabrics such as chiffon and satin takes experience: prefer a company that has sewn dresses in these fabrics before, and ask which spreading and cutting method it uses. In full-skirted, ruffled or pleated styles fabric consumption rises quickly, so have the consumption calculation itemized in the quote (how many meters of fabric a garment takes).
Between two dresses in the same fabric, the difference is mostly sewing time: the number of layers, pleats and ruffles, lining, and collar and sleeve details increase the number of operations. Next come fabric type and consumption, trims, embellishment and order quantity. To compare quotes, ask for fabric, labor, trims and embellishment on separate lines.
If you work seasonally with many styles, favor companies that accept small lots and change quickly from style to style. If you will produce high quantities from a single style, prefer companies with large capacity. In both cases, get an approved pre-production (PP) sample before bulk production and base the shipment inspection on that sample.
Thin, slippery fabrics are hard to control in spreading and cutting. The edge of chiffon also frays easily, which is why methods that enclose the edge, such as a French seam or bias binding, are used. The needle and stitch settings must also suit the fabric weight. Ask the company for samples of dresses it has sewn in the same fabric type, and look at the edge finish and the evenness of the stitching.
Closed-end, invisible (concealed) or coil zippers are used in dresses and skirts. YKK presents its invisible zipper as the best fit for skirts and dresses and makes it in sizes 2, 3 and 5, and it advises against using an invisible zipper at a seam where the thickness changes. State in the quote who will supply the zipper and what type it will be.
There are two models. In CMT (contract manufacturing) the buyer supplies the fabric, and the workshop cuts, sews and finishes. In full-package production the company also sources the fabric and trims and finances production. Say clearly in your request for quotation which model you want, and confirm with your accountant how the order will be invoiced.
There is no official minimum; it varies by company. First ask whether the minimum applies per style or per color. If the fabric is to be custom dyed or printed, the lower limit is often set by the fabric supplier; find out that quantity separately from the sewing minimum. If you work with many styles in small lots, favor companies that change quickly from style to style.
